any cure for a swollen paw?

Question:
Don't bother to answer if it's after saturday october 30th! If it isn't gone by then, I'll have taken him to seek some medical attention!

I just noticed that Silver’s paw is totally swollen ( you could say ballooned!)
It’s a bit tender, so he won’t walk on it, but he will put pressure on the sides and tips of his toes without a problem, (he was even walking around like a gorilla for a second there…)
But he won’t bend his wrist back to stand on his foot properly. (probably due to the location of the swelling)
I checked his foot over for slivers and such,
But I couldn’t find anything.

I’m pretty sure he was bitten by a spider, or by a centipede. (there’s TONS of them down here)

The location is easy for me to handle, since he’s overall pretty gentle, and it’s not so painful that he’ll bite or scratch if I touch it. .

I don’t have my camera, so I drew a little diagram…. (yay for art!)

Please note that the paw is NOT RED! That’s just the colour I used to indicate the area of Most swelling.

If any other signs of discomfort show up, I will take him immediately to a vet,

But for now, I’m looking for suggestions on what I can do to bring down the swelling, or make him a little more comfortable until the swelling goes away.

A cold compress or something? Some kind of creame?
Maybe I should just leave it alone?

Answer:
This is an outdoor cat? Could very well be an abscess if not the spider bite. I'd rec taking him in regarless just to be safe. If it's an abscess you dont want it to rupture and become more infected.May need to be lanced and given antibiotics if that is indeed what it is . Does the area feel soft and puffy? Or hard? Could be a result of injury too. Is he putting any pressure ion it when he walks? Like I say, take your kitty in to be checked. Best to play it safe. Good luck

Answer:
thanks for the reply,

He WAS an ourdoor cat, ( a stray)
but he hasn't been outside for a couple of weeks.

He's not putting pressure on it, but the swelling is reduced.
I'm worried that it's a break.

Answer:
Possible. Let us know what the vet says. Poor thing. *fingers crossed it something minor*

Answer:
have you checked into poly arthritis? I am currently treating my shih tzu for this disease. It is very painful and, in dogs, causes them to run a very high fever.
Good luck.
