Flea collar for puppies?
Question: I was at the store the other day and saw a flea collar for puppies. It's active ingredient is Tetrachlorvinphos. I looked this ingredient up on the internet and read that it had been pulled off the market for cows and horses. I am wondering if any of you all use this or know if it is safe or not to use. Answer: Flea collars scare me for many reasons, not just the chemicals used. Besides, most flea collars offer only localized protection for a short term. Ask your Vet what product will be safe for your puppy. (age?) There are many good, safe products on the market but a good flea comb & no exposure is always safe for the young ones. Answer: Thanks! The puppy is 7 1/2 weeks old. She has had no exposure. I was thinking about what I will do when the time comes that I do start taking her ouside for walks and such. I think I will look into getting a flea comb first though. Answer: Kent, smart choice! 7 & 1/2 weeks of age is very young, too young to be exposed to the enviroment. Vaccinations usually start at the 8 week level with a booster at 12 weeks and again at 16 weeks. With some breeds it is recommended that a Da2pp is given at 6 weeks also. Limit exposure all you can do...no vaccine is 100%, but after the series has been completed it does take up to 3 weeks for any immunity to be in place. Follow any deworming schedule your vet offers too. (usually every 2 weeks until 8 weeks of age) A Rabies Vax is usually given at the final round but they can have it at 14 weeks if there is an exposure. Spay and or neuter and you will have a friend for life. Answer: Kent Puppies who havent had at least 2 sets of shots(12 weeks)shouldnt be exposed to the outside dog world..there are too many diseases for them to pick up,including deadly parvo. Hannah who will be getting her 2nd set of shots next week has been close to home,we have a large yard and so I walk and play with her there, knowing she is safe.I cant wait to take her out on actual walks tho..iam getting bored with the same old scenery and I wonder if she is too When your pup gets her shots, talk to the vet about the appropriate flea medications My breeder dewormed hannah every two weeks, and my vet want to deworm her every 2 weeks for an additonal month(cause we live in the country, where she can eat moles etc) Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
