Dog Won't Eat ANYTHING
Question: I have a 3 yr old Queensland Heeler and he has quit eating. It started out that he just wouldn't eat once in a while. Then he just wouldn't eat his dry dog food. We started feeding him wet dog food mixed in with the dry and that worked for a little while. Now he won't eat his dry food, wet food, people food, or cat food (which he used to steal on a regular basis). He has lost a lot of weight and he seems very weak and sickly. His coat is dull and he has been shedding a lot of fur. We took him to the vet and they said other than the fact that he's not eating, everything else is 100% normal. They can't explain what's going on. I've tried everything. Peanut butter, bread, meat, pretty much any people food that he would normally go nuts over. But he just sulks away. He can go 3-4 days without eating anything. If anyone has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated. I'm willing to try anything at this point to keep from losing my friend. Answer: it is always hard to see our pets go through something and feel helpless... but you are not helpless. please go see another vet and get a 2nd opinion. did you get bloodtests done? complete panel including thyroid? x-rays? it is not normal for a dog to stop eating and shed a dull coat like that. please keep us posted! Answer: I'm surprised your vet didn't have any leads at all. Did they do a blood panel to see if his liver, etc. was OK? If a dog who only eats sproradically, and is weak, sickly and shedding doesn't need prompt attention, I don't know what does. I would take the dog back to the vet immediately and ask for further investigation. If you don't have any special connection to this vet, I would look for a second opinion. Your dog is seriously ill, you cannot let this go on one more day. Answer: we've seen more than one vet and they've done everything minus CAT scans to check for cancer. I'm looking into getting a third opinion, but this is getting really costly. I can't afford to keep doing this. I'll have to give him up to another family that can afford to keep going with this if something doesn't change soon. I hate to look at it this way, but if I have to chose between my human family and pet family, I'm have to chose my human family. He will get help, but it just might be another family that is willing to take him in instead of mine. It's so hard to think of that as an option because we recently had to put down a dog that I had for 12 years. She had cancer and was very old. Now we have another sick one and not enough money to help. But he's only 3 years old! This isn't fair. Answer: I have a 10 year old lab who I believe is dieing and it is breaking my heart. All of a sudden he stopped eating the vet took blood test and liver and kidney ok, but protein in blood was very low. Monday I am taking him for and ultrasound. I am crying to much can not type anymore Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
