concerned about Tigger- litterbox issues

Question:
My male cat early this afternoon started acting like he had to go to the bathroom but couldn't. I noticed that he had thrown up just a little bit. I gave him some warm milk and he drank quite a bit of it, he also seems to like it when I massage his tummy. This morning he was fine, playing with his toys, and I know that last night he had a healthy bowel movement. But when I place him in the litter box, it is easy to see that he is trying to go, but can't. Is there something I can give him to help him, and how long should I wait to see if he gets over this on his own, before trying to see if I can find a vet that will take payments? Thanks

Answer:
Do not wait. If the cat has a blockage, it can be fatal. Please take the cat to an emergency vet right away.

Answer:
I have put in a call to an all hours vet, I only hope he will agree to work with payments for me, I have been unemployed for a long time and just start a new job this coming Monday, and won't get paid for at least two weeks, but I love this cat, have had him since he was born and would do anything for him...wish me luck!!

Answer:
Just got back, Tigger is safely ensconced at the animal hospital with a wonderful vet who has agreed to work out payments with me, I already miss him :::smile::: Thanks for the advice!!

Answer:
I had the same thing happen to my cat (years ago) and good thing you got him to a vet.I had to feed him high fiber kibble for the rest of his life and he never had any problem after that.
