Just a quick q about a cat scratch...

Question:
Hi All,

Hunter got scratched today by my room-mate's cat. Nothing too serious, just a whack on the nose because he stuck it where he shouldn't (in the cat door leading to the basement).
Anyways, it bled quite a bit at first, but it stopped, and it has only bled once since.
I was just wondering if there is a big chance of infection or anything. I know that a cat bite in humans needs to be seen to, so I was just wondering if this should be fine by itself...

Thanks

Answer:
ouch.. poor Hunter! Their noses are so tender. .
Glad he didnt get him in the eye, though..

I'd say it should heal up fine...and would just reccomend keeping a eye on it to be sure its looking ok. The cat bite is a lot more of a concern for possible infection as you've noted, due to the bacteria in the mouth, and the depth the feline teeth can reach when tissue is broken.

I actually had the worst cat scratch I've ever received just last week. a deep gouge to the inner arm. Healed up nicely with no problems.

Hope your boy's okay!

Answer:
Thanks for your reply. I didn't think it was anything too serious, but I edge on over-reacting sometimes .

Yeah poor Hunter, for such a big boy, he really is a wimp

Answer:
I agree with Shamrock... And with the heavy bleeding, it's likely any bacteria was flushed out (because there probably wasn't much in there anyway). Next time though, wash it out as much as you can.
