Don't know what to do- found sick kitten
Question: I was on my walk this morning when I found a kitten, he is very thin as I got to looking part of his eye is gone and it is infected not bad but still infected. I was leary about bringing him home but felt sorry for him. I feed him and put flea med on him, I wiped the eye with peroxide and put an antibotic cream on it. I cannot afford to take him to the vet right now. Would it be ok to give him antibotics that I have here. I just hate to see him suffer. Any advice? Answer: We can't see the kitten and we are not vets, so we can't tell you how to treat the kitten. My best advice would be to contact a local cat rescue. A good rescue has a TON of resources and may be able to take the cat if you don't want to keep it or may be able to direct you to a vet that can help you out. Answer: Either way, kittens can die very quickly from infections or dehydration, plus he could lose his eye. I'd beg or borrow the money or find a vet who takes payments. Any or all of the things you've tried could be harmful. Some flea medications are too strong for a kitten. There are literally hundreds of antibiotics; it is next to impossible that the ones you have are the right kind, in the right dosage, and for veterinary use only. Human antibiotics won't work; they are FORMULATED for humans. Otherwise, as LavenderRott has said, find a rescue group that will take him on. But don't wait around, get on the phone, because the kitten really needs to be treated. Answer: The flea medication could kill the kitten. Generally kittens don't get treated for fleas until they are several months old if that. I hope he/she is okay. Secondly, if you absolutely can't afford to take him/her to the vet, then please do kitty a favor and take her to a local shelter. I know everyone on here will be like ???? But I volunteer for a shelter and they will treat and medicate the kitten immediately. However, I very strongly suggest you take him/her to the vet. Good luck. Answer: The flea medication is from the vet that I got for my kitten, I am pretty sure the eye is gone already. The kitten is eating good, I have got ahold of a vet and am taking him in. Should I have just left him? I am only trying to help him not hurt him. Thanks for everyones advice Answer: You did the right thing!! Too many people think that someone or something else will take care of things. You did it, and it sounds like without you this kitten would've been in serious trouble. Cat rescues tend to operate at much more of a loss than dog rescues and I think the best you'll get is contacts from a cat rescue. Unfortunately most cat rescues get calls about cats/kittens like this in way too high numbers they could possibly do anything about. Plus most don't have any money to take on high med needs strays. Good luck, I hope all goes well. Where are you at? I have some contacts in rescue that may be able to help with placement, depending on your location. Answer: I take him to the vet in the morning, the lady at the vet said if I was not going to keep him they would just put him to sleep, If I keep him and his eye needs removed if it is still there is would be 65.00. If he checks out alright I will just keep him. I would feel bad to put him to sleep. Answer: That's so nice that you will keep him if he checks out alright. $65 really isn't that bad at all! Good for you! I'm so happy. Thank you so much for rescuing this baby. Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
