Double Distemper Shot

Question:
I have called my vet who said not to worry - but i'm worried anyway ! We got our new Dutch Shepard 3 days ago (Coco,15 mos old, female) from a Shelter and they gave her a distemper before sening her home. My husband took her to the vet for a check up and they gave her ANOTHER distemper. She is lethargic and spending time alone and I'm worried. Again, the vet said 2 distemper shots cannot hurt her - does anyone have any pet owner to pet owner advice ?

Answer:
Keep a close eye on her temperature and just make sure it doesn't become too elevated. My understanding is that a dog can have upwards of 9 to 10 times the prescribed dosage without any ill side effects. Some dogs do feel yucky after their vaccinations so this could just be a normal reaction not one based on the double dose. If she's eating, drinking and normal body functions plus regular temp, all should be fine.

Answer:
Thanks ! I'll do just that !

well, BMDLover just to let you know my Coco-is feeling great now ... wow I expected a real community on this board and I get nothing .... oh well...

Answer:
Mommy2Coco,

Our dogs are always lethargic after vaccinations and one even had seizures. Our vet said seizures can be a sign of allergy in dogs. We have cocker spaniels and they seem susceptible to allergies and problems like this. Now we spread the vaccines over the course of the year instead of getting them all at one time. It requires more vet visits but it works.

This is a great online community but we're not here every minute. Fortunately you got good advice from BMDLuver. Good job taking care of your pet and best wishes.

Excuse me?

I came in but BMD's reply beat anything I was going to say, so I didn't reply anything. Kinda glad I didn't if we were all going to get criticized anyway.

And btw, if you post something on a Canadian holiday, chances are none of the Canadians will be on (which is most of the members here).
