Post-nasal drip is gagging my dog!!!

Question:
Hi. I am a new member of here, and I need your help, please.

Does anyone know of a decongestant that is safe for a dog? Our dog suffers terribly with runny nose, and post-nasal drip to the point of choking (gagging). The antihistimines that the vet will allow Sandy to take are benedryl and chlor-trimeton. Both of these make her so tired that I feel guilty about having her sleep her life away. Neither of these eliminate her runny nose, or her post-nasal drip. It is heart breaking to see her suffer and not do something to alleviate the problem. Sandy had a grand mal seizure in February 2005, so our current vet is careful as to what she will let Sandy take. Sandy is a taller than average, 100 lb. Golden Retriever (female).

Sandy goes from post-nasal drip to a dry and wheezzing nose.

Any suggestions, please.
