Anal Gland Smell
Question: Hey all, I have an 8 year old female Alaskan Malamute who has had problems with her anal glands. Last year, I took her to my vet and she showed me how to express the glands if the smell returned. I did it once last fall quite successfully, and I just did it this past week, but this time I can't get rid of the horrible smell. It seems to be stuck in her fur. I've washed the poor girl twice with "Vet Solutions Aloe and Oatmeal Shampoo" that I got from the vet clinic (Atlantic Veterinary College in PEI), but the smell's still there. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, -Ray P.S. - While I am at it, the smell seemed to appear last year after she went swimming in the ocean, and this year after swimming in a river. Coincidence or is there an underlying cause there? Answer: There could be some sort of irritation caused by either something in the water, or something in this season... Anal glands can get irritated because of allergies. You might want to discuss your treatment options with your vet. Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
