Blood shot eye
Question: Hi- This is my first time raising a pup on my own, and so I get very nervous when things look wrong with him. Anyways, the past week had been a rough week for Stewy. About 3 days ago my boyfriend's neighbor kicked him in the head. (took care of all of the legal issues .) There was nothing apparently wrong with him that day, or the next. The next day my boyfriend was cutting his nails and cut the one too far. I called the vet and they said dip paw in flour or corn starch. did that, didnt work. he bled for about 5 hours off and on so i took him to the vet. the lady before failed to tell me that i had to pack the flour or corn starch in the nail. So now it is the day after the incident and he has a blood shot eye. Is this normal? Stress maybe? It started out to be not the whole eye, but has moved throughout almost the whole eye. Any suggestions on what it could be? So sorry about the long post, but I thought those other things could be contributing factors! Thanks! Answer: LOTS of things can cause an eye to be bloodshot or red. Infections, irritation, diseases, malformation of the eyes or eyelids, ruptured blood vessels, etc.. You need to take your puppy to the vet, because most likely it's just some kind of irritation, but it could also be a serious condition in his eye. Answer: Sorry to say this will be another vet visit, your vet may very well recommend taking him to an ophthalmologist, as it could be a sign of a disease that could lead to blindness if not treated Here is a site that allows you to find one in your area http://www.acvo.org/publicframe.htm Answer: I think it could be a ruptured blood vessel from being kicked in the head by your BF's neighbour. I would take him to the vet and if that is the case, I would ask the neighbour for reimbursement. Answer: great. thanks guys, I appreciate your opinions! my BF's mom is saying not to take him to the vet bcuz i take him all of the time. but who cares what she says, I'm taking him in Answer: Yeah, I think that would definately be the appropriate choice. Think of it this way, if something bad happened to your child would you not take him to the hospital just because he's been there a lot? Puppies are like children, all kinds of things can go wrong, and at least as I see it, I would feel a lot worse if my puppy lost his eyesite or worse than I would spending the money at the vet to have him checked out Answer: I think we all go more often than people we know, but it's not us who go too often, it's them who don't go often enough. Good luck. Answer: Glad to hear you're taking him to the vet. Please post with an update after you do. Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
