Surgical removal of Seroma with post Surgical complication
Question: Hi Again. My daughter's Black Lab/German Shepherd, Jake, had a Seroma arise suddenly on the back of his neck 2 wks. ago. The Vet saw him and said that she would wait to see if it got bigger. And it did. On July 31 she surgically removed the lump and sent it for Pathology.... the report said a seroma , Benign and that excision should be curative. So, the surgery was this past Monday, on Thursday we took him back to the Vet as there was fluid collecting all around the incision line. She wanted to wait to see if it would get larger but to return if it did. Yesterday, Saturday , we took him back as it was spreading. She removed 40cc of serosanguinous fluid, he had no fever but is lethargic. She put a pressure bandage on and advised us to return if we noticed it collecting fluid. Today it is as big as it was before she removed fluid yesterday. Unfortunately they have to fly back to Holland this coming Saturday so we are becoming concerned about his health. We aill take him back to the Vet in the tomorrow but in the meantime we wondered if what he has is normal and if the post surgery reaction with the fluid is known to happen. What should be the course of treatment ???? If anyone has any helpful tips we would appreciate the help. Especially since he must fly 7 1/2 hrs. on Saturday !!!!
