water throughing up
Question: My dog a blue healer sometimes will drink water fast then a few minutes later through some of it back up. He has done this for as long as we have had him 3years. Has anyone else had this problem and a solution to prevent it? Answer: You just need to slow down the water intake. When we first got my dog, she was really bad with it. We actually had to monitor her water bowl. She would drink an entire bowl in about fifteen seconds then throw it back up. For her it had to do with being at the humane society fighting for water so she just thought that she had to take what she could get and drink it all. Eventually she snapped out of it and now doesn't do it except if she was running a lot and doesn't realize what she is doing. We usually tell her you don't have to drink the entire bowl and leaves the water. For us the way we helped her snap out of it was that we would put a little water down in the bowl and put it down, of course she would drink it all, so we would pick the bowl up. A little while later we would put it down again, then we would pick it up. Eventually we started putting it down when she wasn't watching, but with no water in it so she got used to it being around. Then we would have her watch us pour the water in and just did it more and more and more. It seriously took us about three months before we could keep a water bowl down for her all the time. It wasn't an easy habit to break but we did it. We just had to be consistent in monitoring her. Hopefully that helps. Answer: My German shorthair has done that from time to time, never thought too much about it??? Answer: Thanks for the advice. I think part of the problem is that my dog waits until he is really thirsty then downs have his water bowl really quick. It's like he thinks he'll miss something if he takes time to drink. I think we'll try the little bit of water at a time trick. Answer: I have known several dogs that can not tolerate cool water or even room temperature water, so that could be your dog's problem as well. Try giving slightly warm water.
