Swimming and runny poo?

Question:
Hello everyone! I was just wondering if anyone knows if having my dog swim in our swimming pool can cause her to have "the runs"? It's been so bloody hot lately and Indy does not do well in the heat so any type of walking or whatever is just not working. Indy absolutely adores swimming so I've been letting her come into our pool to swim, exercise, cool off and have some fun. However, she had the runs last week for a day or so and now has them again today. Does anyone know if there's possibly a link to her drinking some pool water and getting the runs? Otherwise, she's absolutely fine. Eating like a horse, tons of energy etc...just runny poo! If anyone has any thoughts....bring 'em on! Thanks!

Answer:
I would be more concerned about the chlorine irritating your dog's skin. Unless she's drinking from the pool right after it's been shocked, It should not affect her or give her the runs. I have noticed with the hot weather that my own dogs has softer stool, the said it was just because she's drinking more.

Basic rule of thumb for the runs, if it doesn't clear up in 48 hrs, go to the vet.

Hope it helps

I didn't think it was that but thought it couldn't hurt to ask if anyone had had a similar problem. A few of my friends with dogs have said that there pups went through a similar "bug" that seemed to come twice...so hopefully this is the end! As for the cholorine, I try to rinse her off with the hose after she's in there...andthen she rubs herself along the cedar hedges to get a good scratch! I just couldn't imagine not letting her in there though as she's SO happy! Thanks for the response!
