Dog with liver problem?
Question: Hi, My dog Montie is a Maltese terrier cross about 8 years old. He recently had some bad teeth removed and the vet did a blood test. He said his liver is very bad (blood test showed a lot of fat I think). He said I should take Montie for a scan which will cost $450 to see what the problem is. I really can't afford this amount of money. Montie is his normal happy self, loves his walks, eating and drinking normally. I'm just wondering if I can change his diet and would that help? Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance. Answer: A diet change is probably a very good idea. There is some good info here http://b-naturals.com/Apr2004.php You should check with your vet to see if it's ok to start Monty on some Milk Thistle or SAM-e (denosyl) which are both great for liver support. My dog who takes a bunch of meds for epilepsy, was showing some questionable numbers on 2 of his liver function tests last year.......we started him on Milk Thistle right after the tests and the past two tests have been near perfect. Definitely worth a try. Good luck Tammy Answer: Will your vet let you make payments? Or can you borrow the money from someone? Milk Thistle and SAM-e are both good for the liver but I would check with your vet first. Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
