hyperthyroidism in cat

Question:
Hi my cat is 13yrs old, His name is Greyson. We have been to the vet and he did diagnose he had higher than normal thyroid and liver was also a little higher. He had no temperature. He had be vomiting at least 2 times a day and then finally he stopped eating and the day I took him in he had trown up some bloody stuff. Last week we started him on 2.5 mg 2x a day of methimazole. Since I started that he is still vomiting, but it is bile or white foamy stuff. Last 2-3 days he hasnt' been eating. Still vomiting 1-2 times a day and he just lays around. We really can't afford more testing at the vets office, and yes the vet has been working with me on the phone. ( I have been out of work since January.)

My question is...I know this is asking a lot, but could this all be something else?

We have no plants, so it can't be that. And there is nothing that he could have gotten into.

Answer:
If your cat hasn't been eating, he is at *serious* risk of fatty liver disease. This is reversible, but if not treated, will be fatal.
See this link: http://cats.about.com/cs/healthissues/a/fatty_liver.htm

Unfortunately, if your kitty is showing elevated thyroid function (which seems odd considering that he's not eating) and elevated liver function (which could be due to lack of eating, see above link), I'm thinking that whatever is wrong with him is probably going to either be untreatable (cancer?) or is going to be very expensive.

Come to Calgary--lots of jobs! Might have a hard time finding a place to live, but there's *lots* of jobs!

Sorry that I can't be of more assistance. Unfortunately, phone calls with your vet won't answer the questions that you have, and neither will discussions here.

Good luck,
Melissa

Answer:
Thanks Melissa...I know I have been thinking it is more also. I have been able to get him to eat some wet food. I dont' know if his throat or tummy hurt from the bile or what but he will eat wet food. I know it brobally isnt' the best thing, but at least he is eating.

If he gets worse I will do something. I have a feeling it is more than hypertyhrois and liver. Thansk for answering.
