DO Dog's get cankersores?
Question: Yesterday was grooming day, so we gave 8 dogs baths, hair cuts etc. God it was a really long day. We are watching three of my aunt's dog's while she's on vacation. We noticed that one of her dogs appears to have a canker sore. On the right side of her inner lip there is a little pustule. It looks exactly like a a human canker sore. Has anyone expereince this? My aunt is due back in two days, so she can take the dog to the vet when she gets back. I personally don't think it's an emergancy that the dog needs to go right away, correct me if I'm wrong. I'm just hoping someone else has experience this. For all of you who are going to say don't wait take her to the vet now, you never know, your aunt can pay you when she gets back. The last time we had her dogs there was an acciednt and an eye popped out, (clearly an emergancy) we took the dog to the vet. $500.00 later 3 years later and she still hasn't paid for it. so unless it's a life or death kinda thing we're not gonna pay. but any help or advice you have would be great. Answer: Probably a wart. If it is, it's very contagious and takes FOREVER to fall off. Answer: Well I called the vet and they said that dogs don't get canker sores. If it's on the gumline, it could be an absys, if it's on the lip, they don't know but it's not life threatening or anything. Seeing as how her's is on the lip I"m going to wait and let my sunt take her to the vet when she gets back I did notice that when I checked it this morning it had gone right down and looked like a small red lump (that's why I though maybe a cancker sore and it was going away) but tonight after eating and everythign today it's swollen to where it was yesterday. It must be aggrivated. I feel bad for her. I know how annoying canker sores can be Answer: It could even be a symptom of an autoimmune disease which can affect specialized skin like on the lips and nose causing these to blister and swell and cause lesions and scarring, sunlight tend to aggravate Answer: Good to know. I will definately bring that up with her. Would there be any other signs if it is an autoamuntity? Answer: Originally Posted by bethaliz Good to know. I will definately bring that up with her. Things than also happen, the coat may have an area that looks moth eaten appearance there may be skin sore other places on the body, including ears, vulva, groin, foot pads... This site has a photo diary of 2 dogs who are brother and sister that are own by different people abd both has an autoimmune disease, Topi is the male who first went to the vet due to sore swollen lips, Oona started with nose problems, the 2 owners both had phoned the breeder looking for answers, and the breeder had put them in touch with one another, so you have photos, of both dogs in the diary, but it can show what the skin problems can look like http://www.rr-oona.com/DLE/DLEdiaryENG1.html Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
