Hello,

Just wanted to see what you guys think...for the past couple of days, I've noticed a few drops of blood after my dog has a bowel movement. The stool is fairly normal (perhaps a little softer) and there's no blood in the stool. But right next to the stool, there are 3-4 drops of bright red blood, as though it's coming out after the bowel movement.

Everything else seems normal with him...regular bowel movements, eating fine, energetic as usual, etc.

He's a 4 year old mixed breed (mostly lab).

Any ideas?

You can't get something like this diagnosed over the internet. You should bring your dog to the vet. Take a stool sample when you go. Hopefully it won't be anything serious, but red blood is always worth checking out and checking out quickly!

Even if bowel movements are normal, bleeding is not. He may have a rectal fissure that's opening due to strain during a bowel movement, this is easily enough spotted at the vet's office. Please have him seen, it's not normal to see fresh blood like that, and only a vet can assist you in making the right decisions to help him heal.
