Blood after bowel movements
Question: Hello, Just wanted to see what you guys think...for the past couple of days, I've noticed a few drops of blood after my dog has a bowel movement. The stool is fairly normal (perhaps a little softer) and there's no blood in the stool. But right next to the stool, there are 3-4 drops of bright red blood, as though it's coming out after the bowel movement. Everything else seems normal with him...regular bowel movements, eating fine, energetic as usual, etc. He's a 4 year old mixed breed (mostly lab). Any ideas? Thank you. ~Becca Answer: You can't get something like this diagnosed over the internet. You should bring your dog to the vet. Take a stool sample when you go. Hopefully it won't be anything serious, but red blood is always worth checking out and checking out quickly! Answer: Even if bowel movements are normal, bleeding is not. He may have a rectal fissure that's opening due to strain during a bowel movement, this is easily enough spotted at the vet's office. Please have him seen, it's not normal to see fresh blood like that, and only a vet can assist you in making the right decisions to help him heal. Answer: As stated in the title of this forum: * If your pet is vomiting, bleeding, has diarrhea etc. seek vet care. Please seek the care of a vet and post again with an update. Thread closed.
