Teething related to not eating?
Question: I figure this is something you all might have gone through at some point, and figured I'd just post here. My older pup of 5 and a half months just started losing his teeth (or I just started to find them anyways) and I've noticed other loose ones in his mouth. He's been cutting his meals rather short, only eating a little bit, and today he just didn't touch his food. My other pup is perfectly fine, he eats as he normally does. So when I noticed he didn't touch his dry food I took it away and gave him some wet food that I've had just in case. He ate almost all of it, but regardless, he ate. My question is, do you think Nacho isn't eating because it hurts hit teeth too much to eat dry food? He ate the wet food right up. Any advice will help. Thank you! Answer: You answered the question yourself, he ate the wet food didn't he? lol. If he's teething his mouth probably does very well hurt and he cannot chew the dry food, so just give him wet food instead until he's out of the teething phase. You could also try wetting the dry food down a bit until it's softer and easier for him to eat. Answer: It could be. Is everything else ok? Is his energy up? His stool ok? Has he been to the vet lately? Answer: I would also try just moistening his dry kibble. If he still refuses to eat after two days I would call your vet. What are you feeding your babies? Answer: Angie's going through the same thing. She's a growing girl, so I think she can use extra calories. So I'm wetting her kibble with some home made chicken soup. Boiled the heck out of some skin off of chicken thighs, added some frozen green beans and some frozen sweet corn--she loves the stuff. (didn't bother with draining the fat, either.) I warm up a couple of tablespoons in the microwave, pour it over her food, add a tablespoon of nonfat plain yogurt, and let it all cool for a bit. I feed her twice a day. She gets one hard boiled egg for a midday snack (shell and all.) I've had her for three weeks, amazing how fast she's growing. Answer: Just make sure if you use commercial broth that there are no onions in it. Answer: (IMO) I would wet the dry kibble instead of giving wet, I see future problems ahead with just feeding wet, plus if you switch him right away don't be surprised if he gets some loose stool I agree with Prin have a look at the whole picture, wow you are lucky to find baby teeth I didn't Answer: I feed them both the Eukanuba small breed dry food for puppies. I wet Nacho's food today and he ate it all. Thanks for the advice guys. And yes, I found some baby teeth. Actually found 2 so far! one my friend threw away as it was sitting on the table. Saved the other one though because I'm a total loser. Thanks for your time everybody. Answer: glad he's eating again. Hey, if you ever decide you want to feed better food, check out the dog food forum here for ideas. Answer: Feed better food? The food isn't good? I was told it was a good brand for them. Vet says they are both healthy and good to go. But I'll check out the food forum. Answer: It's near the top of the "commercial" foods, but there are holistic foods (without preservatives, fillers and by-products) out there that are really, really much better. Answer: Which thread are you refering to? Can you link it for me because I can't seem to find it. Answer: I didn't mean any thread in particular... Just the dog food forum in general.. Here's the forum: Here's a thread with recommendations for a beagle puppy.. Answer: Oh and you should read the "stickies" in the dog food forum.. These two in particular: Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
