my dog
Question: can you please give me some advice about my dog and if I sholud get a second opinion My dog was hit by a truck and I rushed her to the vet xrays were taken and nothing was broken but her back legs still are not working. she will put some pressure on one but not the other the vet tells me that everything is ok but not as improved as he would like. when in the vets office she had a lot of road rash he cleaned it up and found that the thin layer of muscle or lining between the skin and the muscle was torn, he then cut her belly open a little to sew the inside of her tummy then put in a drain that was to be removed 5 days later my dog did that herself, the vet tells me that was ok but now the skin has a quater size hole where the drain was at and the skin is also turning black and some what like leather he tells me this is also is ok because the skin is dying and to just wait then he will cut off the dead and staple the skin back together I am so confused about all of this and would like to know if I should go get an other opinion? please help if you can :( Answer: How long has it been since the accident? Did your vet take more than one x-ray? If the recent was recent, it's normal for your dog to be sore and painful, and if that's all is it could be some time before she entirely recovered and walking normally. Just keep her rested and quiet. Pain medication is not good for a case like this, because then your dog might overdo it and aggravate her injuries. About the skin - what the vet said sounds correct to me, but I'm sure others here will have an answer for you. Hope your dog is feeling better soon. Answer: It wouldn't do any harm to have an ultrasound done. There could be a lot of muscular damage as well as nerve damage. Answer: You know what? I would be tempted to get another opinion. But you know your dog better then anyone! If your gut says something isn't right then I would take them in for sure! I did it and wasn't sorry! Good luck to you and your poochie!
