Leo is having ye olde *snip* *snip* tomorrow
Question: Well the boys were going to go in but Pawz ended up sick like (though he hasn't had radioactive poop lately and doesn't seem sick) so its just Leo going in tomorrow. He shouldn't have had food in the last four hours and won't have food until later tomorrow... Not having had a cat *snip* *snip*-ed should I feed him like normal? Keep him calm? That sort of stuff? (I'm gonna have a good try keeping him calm since he's a crazy psycho cat but hey I'll try!) Oh and is it normal for the vet to do the surgery at like 10am and then not keep him overnight? We get to bring in Leo at 8am and then pick him up about 5ish. Normal? Strange? Or am I the one on Crack? Megan P.S. Pawz's fecal test came back negative from the lab so he's just....radioactive I guess.... Answer: It's a very simple surgery for male kitties. They don't need to stay long (they keep them just until they're awake enough to manage on their own). For food, it sort of depends how out of it he is. If he's acting normally, then feed him like usual. If he's really, really groggy, I'd hold back the food and also make sure he doesn't drown in the water bowl.. But that's only if he's really out of it (highly doubtful that they would let him go home like that...). It'll be ok. Good luck! Answer: You know...having the "Death by Anathesia" thread on top of mine just isn't helping things.... Megan Answer: Neuters need very little anesthesia. We just took our dog in the other day for it and he was trying to play within a few hours of coming home (no we didn't let him, lol). Spaying a female is another story, because they're actually having to go in internally and get something out, it's a more major surgery, and they're put under for a longer time. We had our female cat and dog both spayed ourselves and they were both kind of out of it/in pain for about a week, even with meds. Every male I've seen come home after a neuter are a bit sore and maybe slightly groggy, but they're usually pretty normal a few hours after coming home. In fact male cats are normally less effected than dogs from what I've seen. All they really do with a neuter (on a cat) is make a little slit and pull their stuff out. It's such a small incision most male cats need very few stitches if any. Look up cat neuter on google, and there are several websites with information. Warning: some of these websites have graphic pictures of the actual procedure. Oh yeah, a male cat normally doesn't have to be kept confined or all that calm, because it's not as invasive a surgery as with a dog, and there's less likelyhood of herniation. Just watch him for awhile and look at the wound site daily to make sure everything seems ok. Answer: Originally Posted by MyBirdIsEvil ... Its good to know...lol...I wasn't particularly worried I just noticed the irony of having the whole "death by anathesia" thread on top of mine... I'm muchly glad that they don't have to be kept calm...Leo calm means there's something wrong (or he's asleep)...In fact if he wasn't running all over the house all the time I'd probably worry myself to death...lol Megan Answer: No worries! Now yours is on top. Like I said though, male kitty neuters are so simple. He probably won't even realize. Answer: He's baaaack! Well sort of..Vet gave him some painkillers before we picked him up so he seems a little lost and confused...lol its rather scary actually...not at all like hisself! He's all squinty and stuff too because of it and if it doesn't clear up by tomorrow I have to bring him back...vet said if he doesn't eat before 10am tomorrow for the same...but he ate so all is good on that front too...he's rather docile right now...its like a total 180 from what he's normally like! I tried seperating the two of them at first but Leo was having none of it so they're together, just not at night at the moment. Vet said he was a good kitty, purred and kneaded the entire time...they had to use a mask instead of the shot because Leo wouldn't go down but that's ok... If anyone was going to be a pain I figured it was gonna be Leo...apparently not! Now to get Pawz in...oh vey that's gonna be fun...I mean if Leo's done a crazy 180....Pawz on crack and psychotic...oh dear the world is gonna end then! I'm gonna keep Leo in the bedroom the next few days to give the incision a little time to heal and whatnot because I know Pawz is a nut sucker...he's already gone to smell Leo a bit but I've kept an eye and so far its sniff only...lots and lots of supervision to be done today and the next few Dart is completely uninterested...he just wants to sleep some more...lol Megan Answer: I'm gonna keep Leo in the bedroom the next few days to give the incision a little time to heal and whatnot because I know Pawz is a nut sucker They're not there any more. I was thinking of you earlier today because I remember that moment with Billy so very well. Hopefully once he's healed and once Pawz gets taken care of, they'll both settle a little for you. Anyway, thanks for the update! Steph Answer: welcome back lil Leo! just you wait until he gets off the drugs and realizes something's missing hehe Answer: He's been slowly becoming more like himself over the last few hours... Keeping the other two from smelling/licking his rear end is a job and a half...*sigh* Keeping LEO from doing it is the other job and a half... cats!
