11 yr old dog is pacing

Question:
My dog is an 11 yr oldmixed breed female. She has started pacing slowly around the house in the last few days. She saw the vet on Monday and everything(bloodwork eg...)checked out. They prescribed Rimadyl for possible arthritis. But still, she paces around and around. Any thoughts?

Answer:
I really don't know, but if she has a clean bill of health, the pacing could be related to aging - senility, fading hearing/eyesight..

I had a very old cat who started racing to a closet after he ate, and sat there howling. Nothing physically wrong, but old age can sometimes cause confusion and restlessness, often at night.

Is your dog large? If so, 11 is rather elderly.

Answer:
Molly...Rimadyl is scary stuff. Seriously look it up on search engine. Try Glucosomine instead...does wonders from my old girl.
The pacing doesn't make sense if they are arthritic? Mine will lay and try not to move?
I don't know maybe get a second opinion?
Here is one web site you decide ok?

Answer:
I wouldn't give that rx to the dog on the maybe diagnosis.

Do you give your dog supplements? If not you can start.
Glucosamine and shark cartilige as well as omega 3 (fish oil, codliver oil capsuls)

This may be senility, or sensory loss...visual or hearing depravation/s.

I wouldn't take the medication they have prescribed, IMHO I agree with Mona on that one.

If IF IF it is arthritis you can always give a baby aspirin OR if it's really bad you can get a prescription for Metacam to ease the pain.

What leads the vet to believe its arthritis. Dogs with arthritis don't usually tend to pace, they lay down more and usually select areas near radiators, the stove, hot water tank or always in the sun or under a light source.

Is there a nice comfortable soft spot that doesn't SLIP for her to get up out of?

Your dog is a senior but not an over the hill senior. My mixed terrier lived to 16

How about a picture of your sweet girl?

Answer:
Awwww Luba,my other half of a kibble in a dish, are you thinking about me?........I haven't even posted on here.....LMFAO...

I think you where thinking about the post about the the dog with the wobbley back legs.I answered to that one about the shark cartilige.

But I agree that dogs with arthritis don't pace.

Answer:
My thirteen year old Border Collie Katie paces too although she's always been "on her feet" she started the pacing as she aged. She's fine physically and I personally think that my dog has become tired of all the goings on around the place. Things seem to make her nervous now, well, more nervous than before remember she's a BC. Anyway, she relaxes once she's found a spot away from the commotion.

Answer:
LOL @ ME & Mona

Can I blame it on my brain injury

But it was Amaruq's answer I just thought I saw you...I read too fast lmao

Answer:
LOL Luba.

You can blame it on anything your heart desires.
