urinating - leaking bladder
Question: Hi, My name is Sonia and I have a black lab-shep mix almost 3 1/2 yr female dog that was spaded when she was 9 mos old. She gained alittle weight over the winter and has not lost all of it, so she weighs maybe about 90 pds. Just recently she has had what I think looks like a leaking bladder. She will be sitting looking at you and then stand up really quickly and there is a "puddle" under her and she seems surprized by this. She has never done this before and it only just started, and otherwise everything is normal, meaning she seems healthly! Her behaviour has not changed or her diet. Could she have a bladder infection or something wrong with her kidneys or is it because she is a little overweight?? Answer: you should take her to the vet it could be a sign of infection which if not taken care of in good time can lead to further problems. Good luck Answer: Thanks for your reply on my question, but after reading through some of the other questions and replies to others I am now wondering what kidney disease is in dogs and what are the early symptoms, what should you look for, what is the difference between kidney disease and bladder infection. Her "unexpected" urine release appears very clear and no odor. I have not changed her food, she has always been on a diet of chicken & rice (tried once lamb & rice she would not eat it) she hardly gets any table scraps, drinks, I would think a normal amount of water according to whether it is hot out, now she does sometimes drink the pool water this year, could this also hurt her? I called for her yearly checkup but could not get an appointment till Sept. 13th they were booked solid. I would hate for something serious to be wrong, she is my pride and joy and have had her since she was 6 wks and now she is 3 1/2 yr. Answer: heres a link for bladder infection signs and symptoms http://www.thepetcheckup.com/works/s...r_disease.html and for kidney infection http://www.thepetcheckup.com/works/s...nfections.html this sounds alot more like a bladder infection. how is her urine at other times if it is really dilute and clear it could also be a sign of diabetes. Answer: I would take her to the vet. It sounds like it could be spay incontinence which is easily treated with inexpensive medication. Answer: Yeah, I'm with rainbow. Sounds a lot like spay incontinence. Estrogen is stored in fat, so maybe when she lost weight, she just stopped storing enough or lost her stores... All I know is Jemma has it, is on the DES pills (but some vets give Propalin instead and that's ok too), and in the summer, when she's skinnier, she needs her pills more often. It is very easy to treat, in my experience. Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
