Is this an infection?????

Question:
Hi, we just got a kitten a couple days ago. She is approximately 8-12 weeks old. She has a green discharge coming from her eyes after waking up from sleeping. Sometimes her eyes are stuck together. Can you please give me an idea as to what could be causing this? Is there anything I can do to help? Is this contagious? I have a three year old daughter and they are very close already. She was an indoor/outdoor cat but we took her in as an indoor cat. Please help.

Answer:
If this kitten has been living outside, she needs to go to the vet to be dewormed and checked.

The green discharge is probably an upper respiratory infection, very common.

The vet will give you some antibiotics for this, and don't worry - your daughter can't catch it!

Answer:
Sounds uncomfortable to say the least.

It may help to use a warm cloth to wipe the infection from her eyes. Keep the eye area clean and let us know how things work out.

Answer:
Just a note to let you know that Maxie is doing fine; the infection is gone from her eyes. She is enjoying the indoor life!!! Thanks for the suggestions; good to know that this board exists!!
