Poison Plants

Question:
Does anyone know if the Shamrock Plant (Oxalis deppei) is poisonous to dogs? Buster ate a bit of ours (along with part of the Christmas tree)

I am NOT asking for a diagnosis, i know what to look for....I would just like to know if anyone knows if it falls under the poisonous category. I have looked on the internet and found nothing.

Thanks

Answer:
It's not listed as poisonous under ornamental/ house or range plants in my Merck. But just an fyi: reactions take many forms and you may not always be looking for the same symptoms in each type of poisoning. If you aren't familiar with it, the hardcopy manual and online Merck have very good tables with descriptions on reactions and symptoms of toxicity or poisoning

Answer:
Thanks Mummummum! I will look it up!!

Answer:
I found this

Oxalis is a member of the sorrel family. Most of the sorrels have a high oxalic acid content, that, if eaten immoderately, could possibly be fatal. Oxalic acid, from what I understand, in- hibits the absorption of calcium. It can also cause a bad, blistering rash inside or out and inside could really be bad news. I have never eaten from this plant, which is a cultivar called Ruby Wood Sorrel or Oxalis rubra but the leaves are edible in salads, in moderation.

Answer:
That's interesting OG ! I guess one would have to eat a real whack of it as I know I've had "false shamrock" in salads and oxalic acid is what gives spinach and rhubarb leaves that tart flavour. And I loooove sorrel drinks.
