Constipated Cat

Question:
Last week my cat was constipated, I could tell just by looking at her bumand also the fact that she was hungry and begging for food but she maybe ate 2 teaspoons full of food over 3 days, so I gave her an enema to relieve her. It's now been three days and she has not pooped and it appears that she is constipated yet again.

Is there anything that I can give her that she will willingly eat to help her poor little bowels along? I have tried mineral oil and pumpkin and she refuses to eat either.

Answer:
Well this was on the homepage and it explaines why cats get constipated. It suggests giving the cat hairball paste.I have always given my cats this.Maybe that's why they have never gotten constipated.Give it a try.But it may be to late to give it now.I'm sure others will help.Once kitty goes poop, then start her on it.

Answer:
3 days?? AND not eating? I would take her to the vet now.

She could very well have an obstruction.

Answer:
I've tried the hairball remedy the last time she was constipated and it just didnt work. She hasn't been grooming herself lately and I've been brushing her 1 hour a night so I dont suspect furballs. She is drinking water on her own and I am also feeding her about 20ml of water per day in order to make sure she is hydrated.

Is there anything I can give her on a regular basis to help with constipation, something that she wont taste so I can mix it in with her food? Is it possible that there is still some hard stool that didnt come out when I gave her the enema on saturday?

Answer:
Lucky you didnt read my post ... the FIRST time she got constipated she was not eating. I gave her an enema and she got it all out withing 5 minutes and she was eating just fine. she still is eating just fine right now HOWEVER I worry that she may be constipated AGAIN because when I look at her bum it looks like it is a little sore.

Answer:
Actually I did read it...maybe there is something I'm not understanding?

You say she has been constipated more or less constantly since last week, except for when you gave her an enema - and that is the only thing that gave her relief? And now the situation is the same?

You never mentioned she was eating normally....in any case if she is eating normally, but has not had a bowel movement in 3 days and is not grooming herself, she needs to see the vet.

Answer:
I apologise if my post was unclear, however you do have it right ...now.

I phoned my vet, as well as several other vets and they are unconcerned. They all keep repeating the same thing over and over again... mineral oil, canned pumpkin. GREAT... if I can get her to eat them...but I can't.

I'm looking for advice here from real people who have had similar situations with their fur-babies. When it comes to even my own health I ALWAYS seek the advice of other people because personal experience is the best teacher, and the doctor/vet dosent always tell you everything you need to know.

I apologise if I seem a bit defensive however every time I post, Lucky rescue, you seem to be very quick to jump on it as if I am reluctant to spend the money to take my cat to the vet... well you are very, very wrong.

I do not believe it is healthy to have to give my cat band-aid solutions like enemas and mineral oil to keep her bowels moving, so if anyone has some advice on what I can feed my cat on a daily basis in order to keep her regular, I would really greatly appreciate it.
